Almost all of the 870 pupils at Marlborough College are boarders, accommodated within 14 separate boarding houses which are arranged as both dormitory and bedsit accommodation. C3 is one of these houses and accommodation is provided over three storeys in a purpose built boarding house constructed in 1986. The works were undertaken in a single phase with window and door replacements undertaken during the summer term while the building was occupied. Refurbishment works to the second floor commenced during term time. The remainder of the works were undertaken during 7 weeks of the summer holidays.
Internal remodelling increased washroom and kitchen facilities whilst a large ground floor common room was formed to allow house meetings to be held with all 60 pupils present. The works included full renewal of all M&E installations and refurbishment of the building fabric. Early stakeholder engagement enabled a careful selection of durable but contemporary finishes with a number of interior design finishes being bespoke to C3.
