Kendall Kingscott were appointed by loss adjustors GAB Robins to act as lead consultant in connection with the sympathetic reconstruction of The Pillars following extensive fire damage.
Little remained of the Grade II listed property following the fire, other than the external and internal masonry walls. However, the property owners were keen to adopt a restorative approach using traditional materials sensitive to the building’s historic status wherever possible. The approach involved use of lime based renders and mortars, Bath stone ashlar dressings, reclaimed column radiators, traditional paints and reclaimed hand made clay plain roofing tiles.
The design also incorporated new bespoke timber fire surrounds, a bespoke oak staircase, handcrafted kitchen fittings by Nigel Gilks and Fired Earth sanitaryware, wall and floor tiles.
