Tolson House - 20 new homes

Our brief was to replace the existing poor-quality accommodation on the site with new homes to meet the Lifetime Homes, HQIs, Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and the Homes and Communities Agency Design and Quality Standards.

The development consists of 20 one- and two-bedroom wheelchair-accessible, affordable-rent apartments, a resident's community room, staff facilities, offices, and communal gardens.

A simple L-shaped building with a central through corridor was designed to sit centrally on the site. A high-quality building has been created to enhance the context's character and positively contribute to the Conservation Area. Photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof to provide 20% on-site renewable energy in line with the London Borough of Hounslow's Local Plan policy requirements.
