Residential Transformation in Hounslow
- Client: Hounslow Council
- Location: London
- Role: Architect
Our team transformed a site in Burlington Close, Hounslow, West London, replacing 56 low-quality bungalows and studio units with 61 new council-owned family apartments in two-, three-, and four-storey buildings. The project complied with GLA London Housing Standards, Building Regulations Part M4(2), and various design guidelines, whilst considering the site's conservation area and proximity to listed buildings. Collaboration with the planning authority, including a Planning Performance Agreement, facilitated successful heritage integration. Using 3D modelling, we addressed concerns such as scale and mass, minimising visual impact through a daylight assessment.
The project was adjusted post planning consent to align with LBH's Climate Emergency declaration. The architectural design incorporated elements of the Arts and Crafts Movement style prevalent in other local housing, supported by the conservation officer. Our approach ensured the successful transformation of the site into an attractive, modern, and sustainable social housing development.
