Protecting and future-proofing one of the UK’s most significant science collections

We recently worked with the Science Museum Group at its 545-acre Science and Innovation Park in Wroughton, Wiltshire - home to around 80% of its collection.

Appointed in 2023, our multi-disciplinary team undertook feasibility, design, tendering and on-site delivery across a programme of seven refurbishment and maintenance projects.

Working as Architect, Lead Designer, Building Surveyor, MEP Designer and CDM Principal Designer, we helped upgrade and protect a diverse estate that ranges from modern climate-controlled storage facilities to historic pre-WWII aircraft hangars.

Key achievements included:

• Creating a fully climate-controlled environment within a modern warehouse to support the preservation of sensitive and irreplaceable objects
• Upgrading critical infrastructure, including obsolete high-voltage switchgear
• Delivering complex roof and fabric repairs across multiple historic aircraft hangars
• Managing asbestos removal, drainage improvements and pest-proofing measures across buildings

Throughout the project, we balanced sustainability, operational efficiency and long-term asset protection, ensuring these unique collections are safeguarded for future generations.

A fantastic example of collaborative, multi-disciplinary delivery on a site that stores some of the nations treasured history.
