Sophie Atkinson: becoming a Chartered Architect

We’re pleased to share that Sophie Atkinson has successfully completed her RIBA Part 3 qualification, marking the final step toward becoming a Chartered Architect. This milestone represents years of dedication, hard work, and commitment.

Sophie joined Kendall Kingscott in July 2023 as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant, bringing enthusiasm and a strong design background to the team. Since then, she has contributed to a diverse range of projects, from schools to hospitals and lots in between.

Her role focuses primarily on RIBA Stages 0–3, preparing designs for clients and securing planning permission. Sophie’s work combines creativity with technical precision, ensuring projects meet both aesthetic and functional goals.

Her journey to qualification began in September 2024 with the RIBA Part 3 PG Cert course, which she completed in October 2025. With this achievement, Sophie can now register with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and officially become a Chartered Architect - a significant milestone in her professional journey.

Sophie’s passion for architecture started during her GCSEs, inspired by Grand Designs, art, and problem-solving. She saw architecture as the perfect way to combine creativity with technical skill, and that early ambition has now become reality. Throughout her studies, KK supported Sophie by - providing study days, and assigning a mentor who offered feedback and guidance along the way.

Recently, Sophie worked on a hospital project for her Part 3 case study and is now involved in designing a new build ward for North Devon District Hospital - a project that will have a real impact on healthcare delivery for local patients.

Reflecting on her achievement, Sophie says: “This qualification marks the culmination of seven years of study and is the final step to qualifying as an Architect! It can sometimes feel anticlimactic having qualified, but when I look back to myself in first year of university, the skills, experience, and knowledge of the industry I have gained is something to be proud of.”

We’re excited to see what’s next for Sophie as she continues her career with KK, motivated to become the best architect she can be and to deliver projects that make a difference. Congratulations, Sophie!
