The Abbey School - Lecture Theatre
Project details
- Client: The Abbey School
- Location: Reading
- Role: Building Surveyor, Principal Designer, Quantity Surveyor
As the first project of the school's strategic redevelopment masterplan, this scheme was seen by the school as their flagship project for future works. Originally built in the 1970s, the project involved extensive refurbishment of the lecture theatre to address ventilation and overheating problems and to provide a refreshed and updated learning space from its previous outdated design.
The refurbishment provided all new Mechanical and Electrical services, including intelligent lighting and occupancy numbers were increased from 80 to 120. Finishes were carefully considered to ensure harmony with the Abbey School branding.
The lecture theatre is now multi-use and is used for lectures, cinema, musical performances and external hire.
