Celebrating Apprenticeship Week: Ivy-Elizabeth Curle
Celebrating Apprenticeship Week: Ivy-Elizabeth Curle
For over 20 years, Kendall Kingscott have been offering apprenticeships, with our KK Academy currently supporting eight apprentices as they build rewarding careers through a balance of hands-on experience and studying. Apprentices gain nationally recognised qualifications while earning. They are supported by mentors and have exposure to a wide range of work in their chosen area of expertise.
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we’re handing over to some of our apprentices so they can share their experiences in their own words - starting with Ivy Elizabeth Curle - Level 6 Quantity Surveying (UBE)
What made you choose your career?
I have always enjoyed problem solving and collaboration. Quantity surveying combines these elements, with a real, tangible outcome. After doing work experience, I felt certain this was the right career choice for me.
What made you choose an apprenticeship?
I chose an apprenticeship to be able to stay in Devon, gain hands-on experience while earning my degree, fast-track my route to becoming chartered, and avoid student debt.
What does your apprenticeship involve and what qualification will you have at the end of it?
My apprenticeship is the Chartered Quantity Surveying Pathway, when I complete it, I will have a degree in Quantity Surveying and will be ready for the APC.
What attracted you to KK?
Kendall Kingscott stood out to me because of its reputation for supporting apprentices and helping people build long-term careers. Once I started work experience and learnt how friendly and encouraging everyone was, I knew it was the best place for me to complete my apprenticeship.
What does your role involve?
As an apprentice Quantity Surveyor I write stage 0 reports, complete measuring take-offs, prepare cost estimates throughout the RIBA stages, conduct tender analysis reports, and prepare contracts.
What do you enjoy most about doing an apprenticeship?
I enjoy the variety between working and studying and being able to directly apply what I learn in university to my role. It’s also rewarding to track my progress through reviews, as it helps me see how far I’ve come and what areas I can continue improving.
What keeps you busy outside of work?
I am a Leader in Training with Girlguiding. I also enjoy swimming, amateur dramatics, and spending time with my dog.
