Wellington Sports Centre

Wellington Sports Centre is a good example of a decarbonisation project - using a 1 Team approach, we supported this project as Building Surveyor/Lead Designer, Contract Administrator, Quantity Surveyor and Principal Designer, working collaboratively with Hulley and Kirkwood to develop a range of fabric and M&E upgrades.

A fabric-first strategy underpinned the design, with major improvements to the thermal performance of the building including replacing the flat roof and external glazing. These were complemented by the installation of air source heat pumps, new air handling units with heat recovery, and rooftop PV.

this £3.6m investment was supported by funding from the Salix Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme and delivered on behalf of Somerset Council. It’s aligned to the councils sustainability goals and is set to reduce carbon emissions by almost 220 tonnes every year. Alongside clear environmental benefits, the scheme ensures this much‑used community facility is fit for the future.

Thanks to Harris Bros & Collard Ltd for capturing the completed upgrades with these photos.

Projects like this demonstrate how strategic investment and collaboration can deliver meaningful carbon reduction while enhancing places that matter to local communities.
